Precious metals are rare, naturally occurring materials of high value and include silver, gold, palladium and platinum. In pure form, they are often soft and therefore routinely alloyed with harder metals, such as copper, in order to improve their strength and durability.

What makes a metal 'precious'?

Non-precious metals, also known as base metals, include stainless steel, copper, brass and bronze. They tend to oxidise, tarnish or corrode, but are often harder than precious metals. They are typically alloyed with precious metals, such as gold.

What are non-precious metals?

Pandora’s metal blends are alloyed with precious metals, which provides a beautiful and strong alternative to precious metals that is also more affordable.

Titanium and stainless steel

Using titanium alloy

Known for its strength and durability in jewellery-making, titanium alloy is used to a small degree as a base component in our jewellery. Titanium alloy consists of titanium, aluminium and vanadium, a hard, malleable silvery-grey transition metal.

Using stainless steel

An alloy of iron, stainless steel is, like its name suggests, stain and corrosion resistant. It's used in Pandora jewellery as a minor component in pieces that require extra strength, including bracelet clasps.

The process of depositing a thin layer of one type of metal onto the surface of another.
